Throughout my studies, I have experienced the diverse cities of Osaka, Toronto and Halifax. I have been
profoundly influenced by these different people, their curiosity, their personal lifestyles and the communities they
live in. I have been stirred by those who have welcomed me as family and friend. All of this has become a most
valuable learning tool personally and professionally.
My fascination with weaving begins with the complex colour interaction between the intersecting threads. I achieve
different colour effects by combining various colour threads into my weaving. This combination is not only for
aesthetic effect, but also provides a metaphor for my own life experience. Michi I and II (Path I and II), for instance
is a sculptural expression of my past experience, the walls that I have faced, the people who came and brought me
influences in my life, and the future incidents that I have not known yet. Individual coloured threads interact with
each other, creating intricate patterns and textures as I weave but each maintains its own identity.
The interaction of threads of different colours symbolizes the interaction of the different influences in my life. Each
thread is unique on its own, not lost in the weaving of a beautiful, powerful creation.
